The Vietnam Veterans of 3rd Bn, 5th Marines Annual Reunions is a non-profit organization formed for the purpose of honoring the families of our KIA's in Vietnam. We strive to help the families understand what happened to their loved ones and, hopefully, help them heal wounds that they have had for many years. We also present the closest family member with a display case containing the burial flag and the medals that their loved one received.
Sometimes we get people together who haven't seen each other since Vietnam. It is a truly wonderful thing to see these people meet after more than 40 years! It brings joy to the heart.
We began in the fall of 1999 and continue on to the present time. Over the past years we have honored 22 families of Vietnam causalities and one from WW1 by special request. We hope that we have helped these honored families find some peace.
In previous years out reunions have been held in May at Highland Marina on West Point Lake in LaGrange, GA. In the year of 2009, it will be held in June at Hickory Knob State Park in McCormick, SC. More information is on the 2009 page.
We do not hold formal reunions in a motel type setting but in the great outdoors. We have a Wall of Honor listing the names of KIA's from 3rd Bn, 5th Marines during the Vietnam War. Those names are listed on the In Memory page. In the past we have had a brass ensemble, color guard, a chaplain, and guest speakers from the MCLB in Albany, GA. This year will be somewhat different. More about that will be on the 2009 page after the reunion is over.
We just like to get together and have a good time. There are very few, if any, organized activities that everyone is expected to join. We do have set times for the welcoming meeting, the raffle, group photos, and the actual Presentation Ceremony but other than that people are welcome to do whatever they want, whenever they want. I understand that we are to have a golf tournament and a hike this year for your pleasure if you wish to participate.
Thank you for visiting our website. We hope you enjoy your visit and we hope you will come back again. Please take a moment to sign the guestbook by clicking the link below.
